This is one of the few hundred Second Allin Conversion Trapdoors purchased by the Chicago Police from Schuyler, Hartley & Graham circa late 1870s, after the firm purchased them from the U.S. Government. They were used by The Chicago Police and Chicago Citizens Association for protections during riots and civil unrest. “CCP” marked on the rear of the frame (Chicago City Police), and “CA” (Citizens Association) marked on the chamber. “1862” dated lock, and “1866” dated breech block. “111” rack number on the comb. Barrels on these guns were trimmed to 32-1/2″, the same length as standard 1873 Trapdoor length by Schuyler, Hartley & Graham. Standard Second Allin Conversion Sights. Metal components are still correctly in the white. Wood was lightly sanded and oiled at some point. Includes notes/research on the gun. CONDITION: Metal is good overall, with a natural brown patina forming throughout. Wood has minor impressions and scrapes. Hairline crack in front of the lock plate. Bore is mostly clean, with minor pits near the muzzle. Very good overall rifling. Hammer is tight, with all clicks. A very cool piece for your collection! Antique, no FFL required in most areas.
