German Weimar Era Gewehr 98M Mauser

Made 1917 at the Danzig factory. “BS” marked chamber and “1920” indicating this rifle was left in Inventory after the Treaty of Versailles was signed. This gun stayed in inventory and was reworked in the early Nazi era, as a Gewehr 98M. This means that the rifle saw three different German governments! Imperial proofs on the right side of the chamber and butt stock. No import marks found (with the duffle cut stock, this gun was almost certainly a bring-back). Matching serials on the barrel, receiver and rear sight. Other serials are mixed, but stock serial seems to match the bands/butt plate. 29-1/2″ barrel with blade front sight and 2000 meter rear. Military blued finish and oiled wood stock. Duffle cuts at the rear band. CONDITION: Metal is good overall, with nixed wear and light brown patina. Wood has minor impressions, dents and scrapes. Bore is frosted, with good overall rifling. A Gewehr 98 with a ton of history! C&R eligible.
