Made 1879 at the Spandau factory in Germany. Still being used by rear line units in WW1. Carbine version of the 1871 standard infantry rifle. Imperial proofs on the barrel, receiver and stock. No import marks found. Matching serials on the numbered parts. Unit marked on the top of the butt plate “8.H./2.127.”. 20-1/4″ barrel with original sights. Metal is a consistent brown patina throughout. Wood has an arsenal oil finish. This gun looks to have been a duffle cut, as the fore stock and nose cap were reattached. Includes period attached leather sling. CONDITION: Metal is a solid brown patina throughout. Wood has minor impressions, scratches and scrapes. Small crack on the tang. Bore is lightly frosted. Few minor pits. Very good overall rifling. Antique, no FFL required in most areas.
