Made circa 1871 by Springfield Armory as a trial replacement for the Springfield Trapdoor. Only about 316 of these carbines were made. 22″ barrel, with blade front sight and rear ladder. Saddle bar and ring are present. Metal remains armory bright. Wood has been  lightly arsenal sanded and oiled. CONDITION: Metal is good overall, with some cleaned patina throughout. Woos has light wear. There is a crack on the left side of the wrist, which is common with these Ward Burtons. Bore is frosted, with some pitting and good overall rifling. Antique, no FFL required in most places.
